Two crews from JBCYC competed in this years 'HAMILTON ISLAND RACE WEEK'.The fleet totaled 160 boats with both of the JBCYC crews contesting the Cruising Divison 2 series. Mark Tobin skippered 'Southern Magic' to a very respectable 4th position and Tony Byrnes skippered his boat 'Mohawk' into 15th position out of the 34 boats in the divison.
On Mohawk it was a week of full dedication to the sport of sailing. As seen by the photos the skipper moulded his crew to suit his style of sailing. After each race the crew were gathered for intense debriefing and tactics discussions, which on some occasions lasted well into the early hours of the following day. The light winds made the week a little frustrating but the crew ensured although they weren't performing as well as they would have liked on the race course they more more than dedicated to all of the social requirements. A great week of warm weather, warm water and a well run regatta.
A report on the exploits of the Southern Magic crew will follow......
