Suspension of Racing

posted Mar 26, 2020, 4:17 AM by David Churchward

The Covid-19 virus is having an increasing impact on our communities, and in particular sporting activities at both local and wider levels. The executive of the JBCYC committee has continued to consult and review our activities throughout this time and recently canvassed the opinion of all our skippers.

It is the view of the committee executive and the majority of our skippers that our racing activities no longer meet the increasingly stringent ‘Social Distancing’ guidelines and that to continue racing increases the Covid-19 virus risk to our members. The committee executive has therefore decided to suspend all JBCYC racing activities for the remainder of the current sailing season. This is in addition to the suspension of all social activities previously announced, including the Annual Presentation/Dinner.

This brings us into line with many other Sailing Organisations who have also recently suspended their racing activities. The JBCYC committee will decide at its next meeting on 14 April whether the remaining 3 races are cancelled or postponed, and if cancelled how the series results will be calculated.

With the suspension of all JBCYC racing and social activities members are encouraged to keep the social spirit of JBCYC alive by joining the Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club Facebook page, Post your photos and comments of life in a coronavirus world and remember ‘Whatever happens, keep smiling’.

Let’s get through these difficult times as quickly as possible by practicing social distancing and good personal hygiene. Let's all come out the other side ready to sail and have fun.

All the best as you navigate these challenging seas.
