Summer Series Race 3 - A beautiful sail on the Bay

posted Feb 11, 2015, 3:01 AM by David Churchward

The conditions for sailing the 3rd race of the JBCYC Summer Series on Jervis Bay on Sunday 1 Feb were near to perfect and although the fleet was small the competition was very exciting.  The ‘sausage leg’ course allowed for all competitors to stay within sight of each, this ensured we all enjoyed each other’s changing sailing fortunes and allowed some of us to pick up improved skills along the way. A slight south westerly resulted in a slow start to the race but as predicted the breeze picked up to a steady 10-15 knots from the SW. The monohulls particularly enjoyed the upwind/downwind racing but the multihulls were challenged on the upwind legs.

Handicap honours went to Chutzpah (Davidson 34) in Division 1, closely followed by Cougar (Farr 11.6). Motion was victorious in Division 2 (Bounty 35). There was a tight tussle between Overture and Tranquility in Division 3 (Seawind 1000s) but Overture crossed the line first and also won on handicap – well done to Kevin and Joanne Lord.

The next race in the Summer Series will be held Saturday 14th February. This race will be followed by the Captain’s Cocktail Party. Come dressed in your favourite Valentine outfit – only limited by your imagination!

Commencing with the Autumn Series (22nd March), Division 2 will be non spinnaker. We hope this will encourage new sailors to the club.
