Summer Series #4 - Great Racing

The breeze kicked in at just the right time for the start of the 4th race of the JBCYC Summer Series of races, sponsored by Tahmoor Rural Services. The course was set to take the boats from Hare Bay in a southerly direction to a mark off Long Beach, then across the Bay to Plantation Point and from there heading northerly to Huskisson and then home to Callala bay. The breeze was predominantly from the south east and a number of the boats made the most of conditions to set their spinnakers on the northerly leg of the race. For some it was great practice to get her flying in the 6-8 knot wind.

Once again Bluey Timms skippering the Navy yacht Friendship was victorious in Division 1 on both line honours and performance handicap. Matana (Hutton 28, skippered by Paul Gooey) in Division 2 had a great sail, crossing the line first and also winning on handicap. Motion (Bounty 35, skippered by David Churchward) came in second. The tussle between the multihulls in Division 3 was exciting. The race to the first mark was close with Tranquility (Seawind 1000 skippered by Alan Leach) rounding it first closely followed by Overture (Seawind 1000 skippered by Kevin Lord) and SasSea (Seawind 1000 XL skippered by John Lawrence). It was the tactical decision by Tranquility after the second mark to keep on the same tack before tacking for Plantation Point that saw her take the lead and hold that place till the finish. Well done Tranquility for winning both line honours and performance handicap. Miz Behavin (Seawind 1000 skippered by Bill Dicker) had a great sail to come in second on handicap.
