Callala Bay has been smashed by winds up to storm force in the past 24 hours.  Eleven boats broke moorings and ended up on the beach despite the efforts of dozens of people overnight.  Numerous boats have been damaged as others broke their mooring and crashed into boats on their way to the beach.  A number of boats belonging to club members have also suffered damage with Blade Runner being completely destroyed.  Motion was lucky to hold its mooring when the headsail unfurled at the height of the storm and was literally shredded into pieces.  One person is reported to have suffered a broken leg in attempts to save boats.  This morning the devastation was evident with smashed dinghy’s littering the beach and boats piled on top of one another.  Urgent attempts are being made to remove the boats before the big high tide again tonight with winds expected to continue to blow hard throughout the day.
