Father's Day heralded in a beautiful sailing day and a high spirited, small
fleet of nine yachts competed in a warm-up race for the Jervis Bay Cruising
Yacht Club 2008-2009 season, shaking out the cobwebs after a winter break.
With comfortable conditions the 10-15 knot breeze saw Mark Tobin's Cougar
blitz the field of Division One boats with Steve Simpson's Dalliance surprising
all in a magnificent second place over the line. Ron Kelly's new yacht Splinter
competed for the first time but was forced to retire with injured crew.
In Division Two, the Leach's catarmaran Tranquility took all prizes.
Another "new kid on the block" was Jimbo Lay in Aqua Gem who made it a family
affair with son Zach, father Bill and brother Pedro on board and elder brother
Bruce crewing on another boat, Jouissance.
Some close tussles were had on the first work to Longnose and then again,
after a warm, calm spinnaker run, when the sausage leg presented quick
conditions.
A pleasant post race "beer 'n BBQ" followed with prize giving and the new
club logo being unveilled! |
