Sailing season begins

posted Oct 30, 2015, 3:27 AM by David Churchward

The Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club sailing season began on Sunday 13th September with a friendly ‘warm up ‘race on Jervis Bay.  Although the winds were light it was a spectacular day to be on the water and to brush away the winter cobwebs.

The course was three laps of a tight triangle at the northern end of the Bay and included upwind and downwind legs. This enabled sailors to practice tacking, jibing and spinnaker runs and to generally prepare crew and craft for the new season.

Although a ‘fun’ race and the fleet was small, the competitive nature of the sailors meant winners were declared. Division 1 winner was Chutzpah (Davidson 34). Although Motion (Bounty 35) crossed the line first in Division 2 it was Matana that took handicap honours. Division 3 saw Tranquility (Seawind 1000) take line and handicap honours. It was great to welcome a new Seawind 1000 to the racing season, Xtasea.

The first race of the Spring series, generously sponsored by Southern Stones Bar & Rockgrill, will be held September 27th and we invite all newcomers along to enjoy the spirit of sailing on beautiful Jervis Bay.
