NOTICE OF RACE

 

The Seawind Cup

Saturday 14th April 2012

IN CONJUNCTION WITH

THE JBCYC ROUND THE BAY SERIES

 

VENUE – HUSKISSON, JERVIS BAY

 

 

 

1.                  Race and Organising Authority

This regatta is organised by the Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club Inc. and the races will be governed by the ‘rules’ as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012, Yachting Australia’s prescriptions to those rules and its Special Regulations and by these instructions.

.

2.                  Eligibility and Entry

The regatta is open to all Seawind catamarans.

 

Boats need to complete the entry form and pay race fees to be eligible. Entries will be accepted on the attached form by post to JBCYC, PO Box 173, Nowra, NSW 2541 or late entries may be received at the Briefings (See 6 below) prior to the race.

 

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a    minimum cover of $5,000,000 (recommended $10,000,000) per event or the equivalent.

All owners/competitors who sign the Entry Form are deemed to have made a declaration that    they hold such cover.

 

All competing yachts shall display sail numbers or some other form of identification.

 

3.                  Safety

All entrants are required to comply with the equipment requirements of Category 7 plus the following inclusions:

 

(a) a boat shall have a VHF marine transceiver and

(b) a boat participating in a race shall carry pyrotechnics (flares) as specified in regulation 4.22 for Category 5

4.                  Sails

            Entrants may only use a mainsail and a jib. Spinnakers, screechers, code zeros, genoas or           any other extras may not be used.

 

5.                  Fees

Entry fee is $30.00. (No charge for yachts block entered in the JBCYC Club Championship).

 
6.         Schedule of Events

Registration will be accepted from 9.30 am on Saturday 14 April 2012 at the Huskisson Wharf, and Callala Bay wharf, where competitors briefings will be held at 9:30 am sharp. The sailing instructions for the regatta will be available after registration and race fees have been paid.

 

There will be one race. The warning signal will follow the start(s) of monohull yachts competing in the JBCYC Round the Bay Series at approximately 11.10 am.

 

7.         Racing Area and Courses

The race area will be Jervis Bay. The Bay is approximately 8 Nm long and 5 Nm wide. The course will be issued with the sailing instructions. The course will be notified at the race briefings and may also be posted on the club website www.jbcyc.com.au approximately 24 hours prior to race.

 

8.         Scoring

The Seawind boats will be scored on a Regatta based handicap system according to their yardstick as determined by the Club.   

 

            Handicaps will be as   determined by the Race Committee and be available prior to racing.

 

9.          Radio Communication

Radio communications between the Race Officer, the start boat and a boat in a race will be on VHF Channel 77. Call sign for the Race Officer and the start boat is JB 1.

 

10.       Prizes

      The Seawind Cup will be awarded to the Regatta handicap winner. Prizes will also be given for   2nd and 3rd places on Regatta handicap and for line honors. 

 

      All boats that complete the race will be eligible for a special prize to be drawn out of a hat.

 

Prizes have been generously provided by Seawind Catamarans and Revolution Sails.

 

11.       Wharf Space and Moorings for Visitors

Public moorings are positioned in Shark Net Bay (immediately below Huskisson Hotel) and at Callala Bay. There will also be wharf space available in Currumbene Creek where boats will be able to raft up on Saturday night. Skippers should check water depth before entering or leaving the creek.

 

12.       Saturday Afternoon BBQ and Presentation

The presentation will be held on the Wharf (Rotary) to the west of Huskisson RSL. 

A BBQ food will available ie Hamburgers and light refreshments available for a small fee.

           

13.       Facilities

Race Headquarters will be at Huskisson Rotary Wharf, where we will raft up a number of Seawinds to accommodate social activities.

 

14.       Disclaimer of Liability

      Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race.

      The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or   death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
