JBCYC Summer 4 - Sailing on the Bay just Gets Better

posted Feb 19, 2015, 3:22 AM by David Churchward

Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club Summer Series Race 4, sponsored by Angel’s Café at Huskisson, was held in sensational conditions on the Bay last Saturday – a steady 10-15knots of breeze from the NE on low seas with the occasional gust to 20knots.

The course, starting just off Red Rock, saw the boats track from the north to the south, then east to west across the Bay to Callala Beach, returning to Hare Bay to then complete a sausage leg back to Honeymoon Bay, then home to Callala Bay. As the race progressed, the fleet extended particularly during the leg into the wind from Callala Beach to Hare Bay. This allowed for plenty of tactical judgements to be made as the yachts negotiated this long upwind leg.

The race was followed by the annual Captain’s Cocktail Party on Long Beach. The rain did not dampen the sailors spirits and a great evening was enjoyed with an overnighter at one of the most spectacular beaches anywhere.

Division 1 was won by Fuzzi Logic followed by Navy yacht Friendship. Motion was again successful in Division 2. Division 3, the multihulls, was a close encounter between Tranquility and Overture, the former taking both line and handicap honours in the Division.

The next race in the Summer Series will be held Saturday 1st March. Briefing and sign on at the JBCYC 9.30am.

Commencing with the Autumn Series (22nd March), Division 2 will be non spinnaker. We hope this will encourage new sailors to the club.
