Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club celebrated the achievements of its 2013/14 racing season in fine style at the Callala Beach Country Club on Saturday 31st May.  Our guests, Commanding Officer HMAS Creswell, Captain Stephen Hussey and Shoalhaven Councillor Jemma Tribe assisted in presenting 26 awards across 3 divisions of yachts. The keenly contested Club Championships were won by Cougar (Div 1, Mark Tobin), Motion (Div 2, David and Pauline Churchill) and Overture (Div 3, Kevin and Joanne Lord). Cougar and Motion also took the line honours trophies with Tranquillity (Alan and Kerry Leach) just ousting Overture for the Division 3 honours. However, even the best of yachtsmen run amiss sometimes and the Shallow Skipper’s Award, although hotly contested, was won outright by Tranquillity’s attempt to enter Currambene when the tide just wasn’t quite there!  Crew members are vital to any great win, so recognition was given to Shambala and their motley crew, including Banjo the dog, winning the Lulu Award.

The evening provided an opportunity to thank the enthusiastic and hard working club committee and other members who make our sailing enjoyable, fun, safe and competitive. The Club races every second Sunday from spring through to the end of autumn on beautiful Jervis Bay with the occasional offshore race. Racing is followed by a social BBQ, presentation and great discussions about the racing of the day.   Yachts of all sizes and hull types compete and sailors range from the novice to the serious and experienced – the uniting bond being the love of yachting. New comers are most welcome regardless of whether you own a yacht. Complete information about the season winners and JBCYC is available at or by contacting Vice Commodore Kevin Lord on 0412217518.
