Glorious sunshine and light to moderate winds ensured great sailing conditions for the 3rd race of the Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club Spring series, held Sunday 26th October and sponsored by Parkhaven Motor Lodge.

The modified pentastar course accommodated the anticipated wind shifts during the day and also ensured all yachts were within sight of each other throughout the race, regardless of individual positions. We were all ‘part of the action’ even those towards the end of the fleet!

Division One yachts, with an additional leg to sail, started 5 minutes prior to Divisions Two and Three. Brazen raced clear of other rivals to be first to reach the windward mark but as the skipper Steve said ‘it went downhill from there!’.  Shane Furkin on Quintessence had a great race and won Division One on handicap. Division Two yachts Motion (David and Pauline Churchward) and Matana (Paul Gooey) had a close and exciting race and tied across the line, Matana winning on handicap. The catamarans had a tight tussle at the windward mark but then saw Tranquillity, skippered by Alan Leach, take out line honours with a 10 second margin.

The next race of the Spring Series will be held Saturday 1st November.
