First Race of the Spring Series Cancelled

posted Sep 30, 2017, 4:59 PM by David Churchward
Westerly winds can be unpredictable and this was the case on 24th September for the first race of the Spring Series. Despite the predicted wind strengths of 15 knots the Navy yachts observed gusts of 42 knots while crossing the Bay and then saw 34 knots while waiting for the rest of our fleet in Hare Bay. We waited for the conditions to abate but unfortunately this did not occur therefore the race was cancelled in accord with our risk management policies. However it gave club members the opportunity to have a tour of the Navy's newest acquisition, Franklin, which most of our crews on the day took advantage of. Many thanks to Wayne, Jim, and the crew on Franklin for giving us a guided tour of this superb vessel. We look forward to seeing it in action in better weather conditions.
