Exciting Racing on the Bay

posted Apr 16, 2015, 5:05 AM by David Churchward

Inclement weather did not deter our sailors from racing in the 2nd JBCYC Autumn Series Race, sponsored by Callala Cellars. With winds anticipated to be south east 10 – 15 knots a triangular course was set heading south from Hare Bay, past Green Point and towards Long Beach, then westerly to the middle of the bay, followed by another diversion south then back to the Hare Bay and around again.  The rain eased but the wind picked up and gusts were recorded of 26 knots by some yachts. However the conditions were generally pleasant downwind and the navy yacht Friendship threw caution to the wind and flew a spinnaker. Racing was close in all Divisions with the catamarans most noticeably exchanging lead position several times throughout the race.

Division 1 winner on performance handicap was Friendship followed by Manly Too. Division 2 was taken out by Motion and Division 3 saw Overture narrowly winning ahead of Tranquility.
