Coronavirus Precautions Update - Creswell Cup, Annual Presentation

posted Mar 18, 2020, 9:38 PM by David Churchward

JBCYC has been seeking to minimise the risk associated with Coronavirus with minimal disruption to our scheduled events. Unfortunately the government guidelines on ‘Advice for Organising Public Gatherings’ and ‘Social Distancing Guidance’ now impact on our scheduled events. We are now in a position where we need to modify, postpone, or cancel scheduled events and activities as follows:

The Creswell Cup Results/Social Function is cancelled. We know members have been looking forward to a fun relaxing, evening and planning their contributions to the dinner but unfortunately the event does not meet several of the government guidelines for minimising the Coronavirus risk.

The Creswell Cup Race will still proceed as it can be conducted in a manner that has minimal Coronavirus risk. We are still planning to conduct a land based briefing at the clubhouse prior to the race, but this may change prior to Saturday with further Coronavirus developments. This land based briefing will be optional and it will be conducted in the open air outside the clubhouse. The official briefing will conducted on VHF 77 at 11:30am. If you choose not to attend the land based briefing please sign on by calling JB1 on VHF 77 prior to 11:30am. In your sign on include: yacht name, skipper’s name, and POB. Please also complete a ‘Crew Sheet’ available on the ‘forms’ page of the JBCYC website. Email it to committee@jbcyc.com.au prior to the race if possible, but no later than midnight on the day of the race. Race fees can be paid by EFT to JBCYC bank account (BSB 641 800, Acc 009124321, include your yacht name & race fees). Yacht pairings for the Creswell Cup will be announced as part of the on water briefing at 11:30am. All yachts competing in the Creswell Cup are required to sail past the stern of the Navy Steber acting as the committee boat and hail them as part of the official registration process for this event (prior to 11:30am). The race will start in the vicinity of HMAS Creswell at 12:00 so please make your way to this area to be ready for the race briefing by 11:30am.

The JBCYC Presentation Night/Annual Dinner is postponed to a future date and may be cancelled if a suitable date cannot be found. It may be incorporated into the 50th Anniversary Dinner, scheduled for Sat 24th October. The series results will be listed on the website. Series winners ‘shields’ will be distributed to successful series winners.

All land based pre-race briefings (after the Creswell Cup) will be optional. The official briefing will be an on water briefing at 10:30am on VHF 77. If you choose not to attend the land based briefing then sign on will be via VHF 77 prior to 10:30am. In your sign on include: yacht name, skipper’s name, and POB. Alternatively a ‘Sign on Form’ form will be made available on the ‘forms’ page of JBCYC website. This can be lodged by email to committee@jbcyc.com.au any time prior to 8:00am on the day of the race or anytime the previous day. If not using this form please complete a ‘crew form’ and email to committee@jbcyc.com.au. If possible the race course details will also be posted on the club website the evening prior to the race. Race fees can be paid by EFT to JBCYC bank account (BSB 641 800, Acc 009124321, include your yacht name & race fees).

The scheduled races for the remainder of the season will continue. The committee executive is keen for the remaining season races to be completed and considers that races conducted in accord with the above race briefing procedure provide minimal risk to club members. The decision to participate and race will be the individual skipper’s decision.

JBCYC still welcomes crew who are seeking a yacht to sail on. If you are looking for a crew position on a yacht, or if you are a skipper seeking crew, please contact Paul Gooey (vice commodore) on 0491 094 154 or contact the committee by email on committee@jbcyc.com.au

Unfortunately we are in challenging times and many areas of people’s lives may be affected. We hope you continue to sail with the club during these difficult times. Our intention is to provide a normal calendar of scheduled races and events in the new season commencing in September 2020.

Take care and smooth sailing through these troubled times.
