Coronavirus Precautions

posted Mar 17, 2020, 6:30 AM by David Churchward

JBCYC is continuing to review our activities to reduce the coronavirus risk to our members and guests in line with the latest information available from the Federal Department of Health.

In addition to the risk reduction guidelines recently circulated by email, JBCYC will now be offering an on-water race briefing for all races until the end of the current racing season. This will be additional to the pre-race briefing held at the clubhouse. The purpose is so that those who wish to continue to enjoy our sailing activities but are concerned about public gatherings can still participate and have access to the relevant information for the race on the day.

The post race results and BBQ will continue but attendance at this is always optional. Results will be posted on the JBCYC website. For those skippers winning prizes who choose not to attend we will endeavour to get your prizes to you.

The on-water race briefings will be conducted on VHF 77 at the following times:

Sat 21 March   Creswell Cup   11:30am (start line will be set in the vicinity of HMAS Creswell and all yachts must make their way to this area prior to 11:30am for a 12:00am start)

Sun 5 April      Autumn Series 3         10:30am

Sun 26 April    Autumn Series 4, RTB 5          10:30am

Sat 9 May        Autumn Series 5         10:30am

All yachts wishing to take advantage of the on-water race briefing who are not attending the on shore briefing need to log on by VHF radio prior to 10:30am (11:30am for the Creswell Cup). Yachts are asked to minimise their radio usage after 10:30am (11:30am for the Creswell Cup) to enable the on-water briefing to proceed.

The on-water briefing will include:

Div 1 & Div 2 courses

Whether there will be 1 or 2 starts

Instructions for notifying race completion (eg call JB1 of VHF 77 when crossing the finish line)

Changes to the course or conduct of the race will be notified on VHF 77 during the race.

Yachts logging on by VHF need to:

Call JB1 of VHF 77 prior to 10:30am (11:30am for the Creswell Cup) and provide the following:

Yacht name

Number of people on board

Name of skipper

Names of crew members (this can easily be achieved by completing the crew form available on the ‘forms’ page of the JBCYC website and emailing it to committee@jbcyc.com.au)

Race fees can be paid by EFT to JBCYC bank account (BSB 641 800, Acc 009124321, include your yacht name & race fees)

In order to reduce the risk associated with coronavirus JBCYC is continuing to review our precautions in line with national guidelines on an ongoing basis. At this stage we have no plans to cancel any events but this may change as the situation continues to evolve. Our prime concern is the welfare of our members and guests. We are keen to provide the ways and means for the current racing season to continue in a way which is safe.
