Updated with answers to some common questions:

  • The rigging was installed in Aug 2009. The forestay was replaced in 2016 when the lazyjacks were installed. The previous rigging comes with the boat which will reduce the costs of replacement.

  • The engine was installed circa 2005. Based on average usage the engine ours would be around 200 hours

  • The mooring is not available with the yacht as it is a priority listing area. As such, I must offer it to the next person on the list. There are, however, other permanent moorings available in the area (outside the creek) and there are short term moorings available for hire inside the creek. I can provide details if required.

  • Many people have asked what is wrong with the boat as it is reduced so much. The answer is nothing. It is a solid boat in good condition. It is simply that I must sell it as I live too far away now.

  • The tender is included but the trailer and outboard are extra ($1k ea)

We have enjoyed a number of years sailing Rockhopper but we have now moved to Canberra and have reluctantly decided that it is time to hand her over to a new owner who can care for her as we have and enjoy her excellent sailing qualities. As such, she is priced to sell.

Ready to sail now, Rockhopper has an impressive sail wardrobe which includes a fully battened main with two reefing points and lazy jacks, three mylar head sails, asymmetric spinnaker and a spinnaker (with a repair along the bottom). If you are feeling adventurous there is also a storm sail and trysail. All this with a furling headsail. All necessary lines and sheets are included plus spares.

She has a 16HP, 2GM20 YANMAR engine that performs very reliably and is easily accessible from under the stairs. It has been serviced annually; the most recent by the local Yanmar rep. Gearbox oil has also been replaced. Many spares and tool are included.

Safety gear includes a GPS enabled EPIRB (7 years remaining on the battery), flares, V-sheet, fire extinguisher, life rings, buckets, bungs and more. Anchor and chain included.

The battery was replaced in 2017 with a new 105AH starter/house battery. There is provision for installing a separate starter battery for more extended sailing. 120W solar panel installed with new MPPT regulator. Also included is a NAVMAN 7000 VHF and separate 27Mhz radio as well as an inbuilt radio/CD system. It has a NASA ‘shoot-through’ transducer (no hole in boat) depth sounder.

This boat has been cared for. All windows were replaced in late 2018 making her a very dry boat. Deck fittings have been updated where required. Rockhopper has a generous ice box (no fridge) and working head (no holding tank). Small kitchen with space for small gas camp stove. Accommodation includes a V-berth forward, two bunks / settee mid-ships (with lee cloth) and a quarter-berth starboard side. She has plenty of storage under seats and lazarettes under the port side cockpit seat and another aft.

Last anti-fouled in Sep 2017. Anodes in good condition.

This has been a fun, reliable yacht for our whole family. She can be sailed single handed with ease if needed despite not having an autopilot. She was built with a strong racing bias and this yacht was very successful in the local yacht races. This was our first yacht but it won’t be our last; we have really enjoyed her. If you are looking for a starter yacht or something to race around the cans on the weekend then this is definitely worth considering. Indeed, she would even make a reasonable coastal cruiser.

Rockhopper is moored on Currambene Creek, Woollamia, NSW (near Huskisson / Jervis Bay). I am happy to show / demonstrate the boat on just about any weekend. As I am now located in Canberra it is difficult to visit the boat during the week but please call or message to discuss.
